Missing the fall…..

26 Oct

So, I grew up in a four seasons area and here, its just hot and hotter. I am really missing the fall….its my favorite season. And, the DC area is so pretty in the fall…all the colors. I LOVE it. But, oh well. I am enjoying this once in a life time experience. The fall will be there when we get back. :-) So its basically 90 degrees every day here. But, now that its October, the humility went away so that’s great!! But, have no fear!! I still plan on wearing my boots….I have no shame. Go ahead and judge me…. :-)

Life is precious and living with regret shouldn’t be an option…

9 Oct

I usually don’t get steer off the fashion epiphany aspect of this blog, but hey, its my blog after all right? LOL…

The other day I received a phone call that nobody should ever have to recieve. My mother called me to inform me that my godmother that had been hit by a truck on her way to work. I kept saying no no mom….not Auntie. Please tell me its not true..I let out a gasp and remember hearing myself cry out and the tears began to well up in my eyes. The hubs runs in the room and tries to console me. My mom kept calling my name…but I wasn’t hearing it. After about the fifth time my mom called my name, she told me that my god-sister was on her way to the hospital. I didn’t understand…if she’s okay, they would’ve just told her over the phone, right mom? My mom just repeated what she said and told me that as soon as she heard something, she would let me know. I started shaking…and crying. I heard the hubs say, she’ll be okay honey, she will be. But, what if his promise was broken, and she wasn’t okay..then what?  After 10 minutes after that phone call, my god-sister posted on her facebook that she was now at the hospital, but doesn’t know the status of my godmother. That next hour was one of the longest hours of my life. Not only is that my godmother; I am literally, halfway around the world, helpless, and waiting. And, my heart had already started to break for my god-sister. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what was going through her mind as she made the probably 40 minute car ride from her school to the hospital where the ambulance took my aunt.

I began to pray and called my best friend: a true prayer warrior and she prayed with me for my godmother and for my god-sister. I told her once I hear something I would call her back. For that next hour, I began to think. When was the last time I spoke to my godmother? What did we talk about? Did we laugh? I couldn’t remember. I laid down, because I didn’t know what else to do. After about an hour of waiting, wondering, praying, thinking…the hubs checked my god-sisters facebook status and it said she that my godmother was okay. She said she has a lot of bruises and is of course in pain, but she’s able to move and walk around slowly. My heart fluttered a little bit and I of course said a loud thank you Jesus!

My godmother was extremely lucky. I called her and she picked up the phone….typical of my godmother not to let a little truck hold her back from picking up her own house phone. She told me that she didn’t black out, and she remembers everything, including that she had six seconds left to get across the crosswalk. She told me that the ambulance ride to the hospital seemed like the longest ride ever, but knowing my godmother, she was probably more concerned about her daughter and how she was feeling. The situation could’ve been very different and I can only attribute her being able to walk away from this accident is solely by the grace of GOD!! My godmother’s time here isn’t done and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for her in the future! My godmother is one of the strongest women I know and I look up to her as a woman of God who believes in the power of prayer. There was a reason my mom asked her to be my godmother and I feel so blessed to have her in my life since practically the day I was born.

Have you ever stopped to think what would happen if you got that phone call? The phone call that you never want to get. That phone call that makes you stop and think, did I say all I wanted to say? Did you say what you really meant to say? Did you tell that person you loved them? That you are thinking about them? Stop and think, and if you haven’t, then do so.Life is so very precious and living with regret shouldn’t be an option.

Speaking of Bangkok…

18 Sep

The hubs and I recently took a short trip to Bangkok, Thailand and I can pretty much sum up our whole trip in one word…AMAZING!! The city itself, the attractions….the food…oh the food…the shopping…everything was totally amazing!! Below are just a few pictures we took over the course of our trip…enjoy!!

 First stop..The Grand Palace…

I had to get at least a couple of outfit pictures..lol. Sidenote: it was about 100 degrees outside (well, not exactly 100, but still. On the palace grounds, women can’t wear anything above their knees and no tank tops. My t-shirt sleeves were cutting it close, but I was still able to go without my sweater.

T-shirt: H & M

Pants: Charlotte Russe

Sandals: Kenneth Cole

Sunglasses: Ray Ban (gift from hubs)

That cute little camera you see me holding is our new toy…the Leica X1. Takes awesome pictures and perfect for vacation trips if you don’t always feel like lugging around your Canon 5D plus all the lens that go with it.

Oh the traffic…lol…

And, of course I had to leave you with a picture of THE malls of all malls. SIAM CENTER! This mall had it all and then some…EVERY store you can possibly think of (Chanel, Hermes, Gap, Zara, Gucci, Balenciaga) and then throw in a Aston Martin and a BMW dealership along with a movie theatre, a bowling alley, and an Aquarium…yes, an aquarium. Oh, and I almost forgot about the AWESOME food court. And, its not your average food court. All top of the line food eateries and then when you are done there, you can stop at the grocery store and pick up dinner for the next day…totally insane but so awesome…but NOTHING on my thrift stores back home….lol.

And, I’ll leave you with these gorgeous views from our first night where we had dinner at The Dome at State tower. You might recognize it from Hangover 2. Dinner was good…overpriced, but you are really paying for the view. And, for that…it was worth it.

I must say, it feels great to be back!!
